Foreigners arouse the greatest curiosity in Iranians (most of them anyway). Be it in flights, shops or ATMs.
recently me and a friend went to the drugstore. We were waiting our turn and so went to the beauty products' side to look at some creams. the lady salesperson smiled at us and asked me,
"Where are you from?"
I smiled and replied "....."
My friend whispered to me.. "Uff! now she's gonna ask you about your entire life!"
I whispered back, "yeaa..we have some time." And then turned and smiled at her.
After asking a few more random questions, and quite audibly saying to one of her customers how her brother was ALSO a talabeh at some seminary in Tehran, she asked me, "Do you speak English?" I said I did. Then it was time for us to leave. as we were about to go, she very gingerly asked "excuse me... can I have your number?" Pause. I look at her blank. she continues, "...So that I can practice my English with you?" I held in my surprise and said apologetically, "I'm sorry...We're not allowed to give our number to anyone." she looked embarrassed and said it was okay.
After we were out my friend said, "aww...you embarrased her!" so, seriously... what did she expect? That she'd call me and i'd teach her english over the phone? ah huh!
