Ramadan's getting to me. I've been following a less than impressive Ramadan routine which involves being sloppy, drab and grim during the daytime (fasting time) and being awesome and energetic after ifaar till really late at night. It's about 14th Ramadan now, and the fasting is kinda getting to me. I feel drained out and hungry during the day, and basically don't move much, which in turn makes me cranky. Lately I've been haunted by food dreams. I keep looking at the wall clock and sob internally. I keep thinking about all the food i'm going to eat at iftaar and then end up eating only about 20% of that. It seems my food thoughts are pretty elaborate, extravagant and unreal.
Every time I go to any of those online hijab stores or Islamic clothing whatevers, I feel like I so totally wanna buy some gorgeous outfit and then realize I have to pay like half of that gorgeous outfit's price just for shipping! Ugghh. Seems like all the cool online stores are either situated in the UK, USA or Malaysia. The closest to home is China, but then those guys only specialize in wholesaling stuff. I so totally wanna go shopping to the city's best and awesome-est place but since I'm sloppy and cranky all day, It's not going to materialize anytime soon. I really wanna buy an awesome and whacky Eid outfit.
Do you also feel tired and drained out during fasts? What do you do to re-energize yourself?

The only thing that gets to me during Ramadan is having to stay at home all day (because it's 45 degrees outside and I don't want to be boiled alive w/out being able to drink water). But other than that, I try keeping myself busy even before iftaar. The trick is in not waking up too late.
ReplyDeleteRamadan and the heat of summer make fasting difficult, but I find that keeping busy during the day helps a lot. Sleeping throughout the fast makes me feel like my body clock is utterly disturbed so I try to avoid that route.
ReplyDeleteThe trickiest time comes about 2hrs before Iftar. I try to help out mama then, and keep talking to her about random stuff while she prepares everything..and time flies! :)

Jnana- Wow, 45 degrees! May Allah accept it, girl! Oh yea, not waking up too late is the thing. I need to start sleeping early for that ;)

Thank you so much. That's is so kind, and helpful! I should avoid sleeping during the day, yeah.
